Loading & Lashing Completed

2 Large Crates

This shipment consitsts of two large industrial crates. The crates have been fully encased with heavy duty yellow weather protective tarpaulin provided by the customer. Our team coordinated the lifting of two large crates onto the flat racks, executed precision loading and lashing to CTU Code standards, and managed the final shunt and delivery to Tilbury Port.

Project Overview

At GPS, we specialize in the logistical handling of high-value, out-of-gauge (OOG) machinery. This project involved the secure preparation and stabilization of two massive industrial crates for international transit, ensuring they arrived at their destination in factory-perfect condition despite their extreme dimensions.

Challenge · Solution · Result

Challenge

Weight Distribution & Stability: The crates possessed a high center of gravity. Traditional lashing wouldn't suffice to prevent "toppling" or sliding during the heavy pitching and rolling of a vessel at sea. Structural Integrity: Applying too much pressure with lashing straps directly onto the cargo could potentially crush the internal components or damage the protective casing. Sheeting: The tarpulin delivered was too small to cover both crates.

Solution

We immediately notified the customer when we saw the tarp was too small and advised them to send another one ASAP to avoid missing the shipping deadline. Precision Engineering (Lashing): Instead of standard tie-downs, we engineered a vertical and horizontal lashing grid. We deployed 10+ high-tension orange ratchet straps anchored to reinforced points on the flat rack, creating a "cage" effect that locked the cargo into the base. Belly-Strap Reinforcement: A horizontal perimeter strap was added to compress the tarp and provide lateral tension, ensuring the two crates functioned as a single, stable unit.

Result

100% Protection: The tarp arrived the next day and we were able to merge the two tarps together to sheet the cargo. The flat rack arrived completely dry and free of environmental contamination. Safety Compliance: Our lashing complied with international maritime safety standards, ensuring no shifts in weight during the voyage. Client Peace of Mind: By providing a "turnkey" solution—from lashing to final tarping—the client saved on transit time and avoided the high costs associated with cargo damage or port rejections due to improper securing. Another successful delivery of complex machinery, reinforcing GPS Cargo’s reputation as a leader in specialized global logistics.
