Yard Assistant (Cargo & Logistics)

We are seeking a hardworking and dependable Yard Assistant to join our logistics team. This role is critical for ensuring the safe movement, loading, and securing of diverse cargo within our facility. You will be responsible for handling both standard and specialised "out of gauge" (OOG) cargo, ensuring all items are properly prepared for transit in shipping containers and flat racks.

• Cargo Handling: Load and unload "in gauge" and "out of gauge" cargo into shipping containers and onto flat racks.
• Securing & Lashing: Apply professional lashing and securing techniques to ensure all cargo remains stable and safe during transport.
• Forklift Operation: Safely operate forklifts and other industrial material-handling equipment to move stock and heavy goods throughout the yard.
• Industrial Materials: Handle various industrial materials, adhering to all safety protocols for storage and transport.
• Yard Maintenance: Maintain a clean, tidy, and hazard-free work environment, including general housekeeping and organization of stock.
• Safety & Compliance: Strictly follow all Health & Safety (H&S) regulations and report any defects or near-misses immediately to management.
• Technical Skills: Proven experience in forklift operation; a valid Counterbalance Forklift license is highly preferred.
• Cargo Knowledge: Familiarity with loading, lashing, and securing diverse cargo types, particularly for containerised shipping.
• Physical Fitness: High level of physical stamina and fitness, capable of manual handling and heavy lifting.
• Environment: Comfortable working primarily outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Professionalism: Reliable, punctual, and able to work both independently and as part of a dynamic team.
• Communication: Clear verbal communication skills to coordinate with drivers and yard supervisors.
